Developing Your Inner Strengths for Leadership and Serving People

Larae Quy in her blog stated that we admire people with inner strength—we make them our heroes and call them by name, like John Wayne. Heroes don’t focus on their weaknesses—instead, they develop their strengths so they can respond to unexpected challenges with confidence.

Whoever you are, whatever your dream, you have to be strong in your head and strong in your heart. Be strong. There’s no quitting in the person who wants it bad enough.”

Ephesians 3:16

New King James Version (NKJV)

16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man…

Ran Zilca (CEO of Signal Patterns) states that all of us are born with unique capabilities and skills, and the way to build one’s strength is to focus on these specific skills and grow them. Some people run fast, others are flexible, some can lift significant weight.  For us to be better leaders we need to identify the unique capabilities and skills each of us possess.

Peter Drucker once said that “Most Americans do not know what their strengths are. When you ask them, they look at you with a blank stare, or they respond in terms of subject knowledge, which is the wrong answer.”

“Hide not your talents. They for use were made. What’s a sundial in the shade?”
— Benjamin Franklin

Do you know what your strengths are?

Do you have the opportunity to do what you do best every day?

Chances are, you don’t. All too often, our natural talents go untapped. From the cradle to the cubicle, we devote more time to fixing our shortcomings than to developing our strengths. To help us uncover our strengths Gallup  published a book called Strengthsfinder 2.0 by Tom Rath, which has helped millions to discover their top five talents and help them gain insights into their unique leadership strength.

I believe reading books like the Strengthsfinder 2.0 by Tom Rath, Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and the Holy Bible will help us develop our inner strength for effective leadership and our ability to serve the people more efficiently.

  1. I believe you should start thinking about: ‘Collection of Thoughts on Leadership’ – It would make an educative reading. Prayerfully consider this please! Pst. MKO Oyeneye
